Fala Day 2019

Saturday, October 26

10:00 - 14:30

FDR Fala Campaign Speech 1944

STCGA will be hosting Fala Day Saturday, October 26, 2019 at President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs, GA.  Fala Day is a celebration of the remarkable and enduring legacy of the strong and inspiring bond between President Roosevelt and his beloved Scottie Fala.

This strong bond is reflected in the Roosevelt Presidential Memorial in Washington, D.C.  Fala is the only dog to receive the honor of being included in a presidential memorial.  A great story about Fala can be found HERE at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum archive.  Fala’s legacy also lives on at the Little White House where Fala spent his time scampering and playing on the grounds.  There are still scratches left on the front door of the Little White House made by Fala and preserved as part of the heritage of this presidential retreat.  Anyone who has spent any time around Scotties would certainly appreciate that!

Activities will kick off at 10:00 A.M. with a brief presentation of the unique history and positive impact of Fala upon President Roosevelt and many others.  A solemn reading of those who have passed over the Rainbow Bridge will be followed by the traditional parade of Scottish Terriers through the grounds led by a bagpiper.  A “Roosevelt style” picnic will be held on the grounds with all wishing to participate welcome to join.  Later, there will be a Fala look-alike contest, a costume contest and an array of other activities to keep all the Scotties and human attendees entertained. Come join us for a memorable and fun filled day.

Lunch

Visitors to Fala Day have the option to bring their own lunch or join STCGA for a cook-out with hot dogs, hamburgers, turkey burgers, soft drinks, bottled water, chips, and dessert. There will be a $10 charge to participate in the cook-out and you can sign up at the registration desk on Saturday morning.

Fala Day - Oct 13, 2018
We had a beautiful day in Warm Springs for Fala Day again this year. The weather was great, the sky was blue, the sun was shining, and the temperature just right.  A good group of Scotties enjoyed the day, it was a fun day for all! Afterwards many of us spent the night at Meriwether Inn which gave us the opportunity to visit further and share stories and information about our beloved Scotties.

Here are two videos of the parade to the Little White House and some pictures. If you were at Fala day and have some pictures you would like posted or details about any of the pictures included below, please send an email
Fala Day - Oct 14, 2017
It was a beautiful day at Fala Day this year. The weather was great and we had a good group of Scotties and their owners. Boy Scout troop 467 presented the colors, and later attended a dog care merit badge training session. In addition, Lisa Dempsey demonstrated how a Scotty can master an agility course.
It was a fun day for Scotties!
